I always go into Fontanas looking for the perfect shoe. I rarely find what I'm looking for, I have hard to fit feet so stock sizes don't often fit. But the people there are very helpful and knowledgeable about what they have in stock and happy to help or order something that isn't in stock. The thirty day return period is flexible if you ask nicely, and in general they are accommodating and want you to be happy.
Do not buy shoes here! The Timberlands I bought were defective after a couple of wearings. They told me to return the boots to Timberland directly, which I did. Timberland sent $220.00 in gift certificates that Fontana's will not honor. They do not have my size online nor any other boot in my size. I am now stuck with the giftcard and no boots in my size. The manager of the store could not even come out from behind the counter to talk to us directly/ VERY DISAPPOINTED in an institution that does not stand by their products.
