This school is the worst school ever! Boynton middle school is the best school in Ithaca! Go Boynton Bobcats
Smart students are dubbed "nerds" at this school. At Brighton High School "nerds" are considered average. If you're not a "nerd" at Brighton High then you're uncool. While at this school the ones who aren't "nerds" are considered cool.
DeWitt places their school ratings first. Not their students.
I go to DeWitt, and I can say that bullying happens constantly, and most teachers aren't doing anything to stop it. There is a bully that has 35 referrals and isn't gone yet because the school doesn't want that on their permanent record. Normally, students should be expelled at 15 referrals, but obviously, they don't want him gone. The lunches are also terrible; the school thinks that 5 reheated chicken nuggets is an appropriate "lunch." Some teachers are also racist and discriminatory, especially some the gym teachers. If a problem student does something wrong, the school punishes the whole entire school instead of just that student. Gangs of students also roam the halls and ditch classes, and if you run into them, there's a pretty high chance they'll bully you. However, some teachers are doing their best efforts to find solutions to the problems, so kudos to them. This school also has various unnecessary rules that are not present at Boynton, such as the "6 to a table unless you're white" rule, "no phones during lunch until Friday" rule, and "no bringing food an inch outside of the cafeteria" rule. So to conclude: if you come to Ithaca and need to send your child to a middle school, send them to Boynton or a school other than this school. You'll regret sending them to DeWitt.
I used to get bullied at DeWitt. I thought it was normal. Not until I went to high school. Not Ithaca High, but Brighton High. Brighton High School is located in Brighton, NY which is a suburb in Rochester, NY. This school could learn a couple new things from Brighton High. At Brighton the students are welcoming and nice. The staff is very professional. The school makes sure they stop bullying. It has come to a point where most years there are no reports of bullying. Unlike DeWitt. I got bullied and some teachers would just say "ignore them." What? How are you supposed to ignore bullies if they keep approaching and threatening you? Some teachers are great, but many are decent or terrible.
The building itself is in good condition, though the parking space is lacking and the restrooms need cleaning. As for Middle School services... send your kids to another.
Terrible school, terrible people, terrible food, terrible bathrooms. Avoid at all costs.
I don't regret coming to this school however, because it has taught me many life lessons. Thank you DeWitt!
