1st incident: They mishandled my tax paperwork and despite me visiting their office 4 times, they still do nothing correct it. It's been impossible to reach someone who can answer my question about tax paperwork. This happened to me in 2014-15 and I just gave up my withheld interests. 2nd incident: Their system had a bug and my address somehow got completely deleted from the system. Consequently, they sent my new debit card to a wrong address (I was unaware that they issued me a new card because all my letters were sent to the wrong address too, and all my statements were online). I finally realized this because my old card got deactivated and I had to go without a card for weeks. 3rd incident: They misplaced many Cornell foreign students' SSN declaration form in April this year (2017). I don't know if they have fixed it for other students but after 6 months, they still had not done anything to fix it for me. My interest has been withheld every single month since, despite me sending them the form twice, once in person. I have accounts with BOA and M&T and I've never had any problem with them. So, just a warning to incoming Cornell students looking to open a new bank account, Tompkins Trust is a very unprofessional and unreliable financial institution -- avoid it if you can.
Avoid it like the plague. Worst customer service, complicated bank services, very very slow work, and very very unreliable. It is taking me more than 4+ business days to do a simple transaction. Other essential bank services are also horrible.
